NorQuesters are difference makers and we’re searching for someone dedicated to finding ways forward to join our Corporate Services and Finance team as an Accountant I.
The Accountant I is responsible for the processing of journal entries in a timely fashion while ensuring that all supporting documentation is present and comply with College signing authority limits, and other relevant policies and procedures. The Accountant I is also responsible for managing the procurement card program, performing GL account reconciliations, GST self-assessments on p-card transactions, wire payments, and providing support to the finance team as required.
HOW YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE:
General Ledger
- Process journal entries by ensuring proper backup documentation and approvals are in place and uploading them to PS Finance system.
- Prepare accrual journals, Visa payments journals, wire payment journals, GST self-assessment journals (p-card transactions, wire payments, and US payments) and inventory true-up journals in a timely manner.
- Assist with financial services entries as needed.
- Work within a tight timeline to ensure all journal entries are processed by month end and year end cut-off times.
- Participate in month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Reconciliation of Accounts Payable, P-card, Accrued Liabilities and other GL balance sheet accounts as assigned. Investigate and resolve when there are discrepancies.
- Work with Advancement group to record donations, perform bank transfers, and bank reconciliation of the Foundation bank account.
Procurement Card Program
- Assist with implementing new procurement card program.
- Provide training where required to end users.
- Monitor program for compliance and take action where necessary.
Other
- Assist OAG and other audit groups with pulling backup information for audit requests.
- Assist with financial information system testing as required.
- Compile and analyze information for WCB report.
- Maintain a high level of customer service while managing high level of internal and external phone and email requests.
- Active participation in the college’s strategic plans.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Accounting Diploma or related degree.
- CPA Candidate or working towards CPA is preferred.
- 2 to 3 years of general accounting or bookkeeping experience.
- Working knowledge of General Ledger and Chart of Account structures.
- Intermediate or advanced level knowledge of Microsoft office suite, specifically Excel.
- Experience working in a not for profit and/or educational field an asset.

SALARY: AUPE Analyst II | Band level 7 | $54,028 - $70,193 annually reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience.
