NorQuesters are difference makers and we’re searching for a great self-starter who can work with staff across NorQuest to evaluate contracts, interpret agreements, and look for new ways forward to improve the reconciliation processes.
Reporting to the Manager, Accounting Services (Capital, Deferred Revenue, and Treasury), the Accounting Analyst is responsible for grant revenue recognition and reconciliation, System and Organization Control (SOC) reporting, contract analysis for accounting implications, and PeopleSoft security management. The role is fully cross-trained to provide backup support to the Corporate Treasury Analyst. Effective workload prioritization is essential to ensure accurate and timely completion of month-end and year-end close activities.
HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
- Analyze and interpret the contract/grant agreements to ensure proper revenue recognition.
- Prepare and process deferred revenue recognition journal entries.
- Reconcile Deferred Revenue general ledger accounts on a monthly basis.
- Investigate and take appropriate action on reconciliation items.
- Analyze and interpret contracts to determine appropriate accounting treatment in accordance with public sector accounting standards such as but not limited to:
- Asset Retirement Obligations,
- Contractual Rights and Obligations,
- Embedded Derivatives,
- Whether the contract results in an expense, revenue, asset or liability and category within each type
- Determine when appropriate to request a tax review on the contract.
- Ensure the contract has clearly identified the GST treatment.
- Review user requests prior to submitting to Assistant Controller for approval.
- Perform quarterly audit of the PeopleSoft Finance Security user access.
- Assist with bank reconciliations, journal entries, analysis and reporting.
- Assist the OAG and other Auditors interim and year-end audit requests.
- Assist with financial information system testing.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelors Degree in related field or equivalent
- CPA Designation is required.
- Functional understanding in the interpretation and application of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS).
- 5+ years directly related experience in accounting with an emphasis on reconciliations and General Ledger activity.
- Experience working in the public sector and/or educational field is an asset.

- Intermediate knowledge of accounting systems, internal controls.
- Ability to perform intermediate to advanced account reconciliations.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
SALARY: Band Level 10 | Consultant I | $81,819 - $102,242 reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience. Plus, immediate access to our great pension and benefit programs.
