POSITION DESCRIPTION 

 

The Digital Design diploma program is looking for a full-time Associate Chair who will report to the Program Chair, and work closely with the Academic Program Manager, Dean, Vice-Dean, and Business Manager to establish, implement, and achieve program goals and objectives through faculty mentorship and teaching excellence. The primary role of the Associate Chair is to support academic leadership and management to promote teaching and learning at the program level. The Associate Chair will work with the Program Chair to evaluate course delivery and outcomes, as well as provide instructional leadership for all casual instructors in the program. The Associate Chair will also be required to teach.  

 

THE PROGRAM 

 

The successful candidate can look forward to leading an innovative program with established curriculum brokered from Bow Valley College. The program blends foundational understandings of both creative and technical aspects of digital design, while providing students with an opportunity to connect with industry to build their capstone project. Students in the Digital Design program will learn fundamentals of design, User experience, branding, communications, and marketing basics, Interaction design for web, mobile, apps, and social media, motion graphics, and video & audio production. This full time 2-year diploma program is taught in-person at the Downtown Edmonton NorQuest Campus.

Program Development and Delivery  
Working with the Program Chair to engage in collaborative reviews and evaluating curricula that connects students to the Digital Design field. Collaborate with the Program Chair and various college teams on student and faculty recruitment, retention, and recognition. Maintain a 70% teaching load that allows for connection of students and lifelong learning.  

  

Faculty Support and Development  
Foster a community of learning by recruiting and guiding faculty who prioritize inclusion, community, and culturally responsive pedagogy.  

 
Student Success  
Promote and support sound adult educational strategies that are grounded in respect, inclusivity, and diverse ways of knowing. Oversee utilization and management of program Moodle.  

     
Internal and External Liaison  
Create open lines of communication with community members, including advisory committees, and industry leaders.  

 

This appointment begins April 7, 2025.  

 

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • Bachelor's degree in digital design, graphic design, UX/UI, or related field. Master’s degree considered an asset.  

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in both applied digital design tools and design methodologies.  

  • Significant (3-5 years) teaching and/or mentoring experience is required, as is evidence of quality teaching

SALARY: Reflective upon what you bring, AKA your education and experience. This is a Faculty role therefore the pay range is quite large, the Faculty Association agreement Appendix A outlines how pay is determined.
