NorQuesters are difference makers and we’re searching for someone dedicated to making a difference to join our People & Talent Operations team as a Compensation and Job Evaluation Specialist. Reporting to the Director, People and Talent Operations, the Compensation and Job Evaluation Specialist is a subject matter expert in compensation and job evaluation and is responsible for the design, development, delivery, implementation and maintenance of the college’s compensation and classification system. 

 

As part of the People and Talent Operations team, this role helps to ensure consistent, transparent and comprehensive compensation and job evaluation practices exist, while meeting evolving needs of the college. This role conducts comprehensive and complex analyses related to all facets of compensation and makes recommendations in alignment with policies, procedures and legislation. This role will be responsible for conducting research and analyses to ensure consistent application of job evaluation methods and systems, that results in a fair, consistent and equitable evaluation of all roles across the college.

 

Leaning into our Q's of "find ways forward, lead from where you are, be dependable" and " have honest conversations" the Compensation and Job evaluation Specialist will identify opportunities to develop innovative    solutions in the compensation and job evaluation system and programs while balancing the needs of internal stakeholders and maintaining the integrity of the college’s systems.

 

HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

  • Job Evaluation
    • Lead the implementation and maintenance of the college’s job evaluation system and methodology, leaning on evidence-based leading practices.
    • Support the ongoing development and maintenance of  tools for the People & Talent Operations team as well as resources for leaders and team members across the college engaging in compensation and job evaluation processes. 
    • In collaboration and with support of the HR Business Partners, lead the review, analysis and classification of new and existing job descriptions, perform job audits and make recommendations.
  • Compensation
    • Serve as a subject matter expert and contribute to the development and implementation of consistent practices to create an effective and efficient compensation system for the college and within the existing policies and procedures.
    • Verify, provide advice and implement compensation related initiatives, including market modifiers, overpayments, acting pay, salary reviews, salary and severance disclosures and any other special compensation services needed.
    • Conduct compensation related research as required. 
  • Position/Budget Management
    • Ensure alignment with position management principles while ensuring there are appropriate approvals on job descriptions and salary/pay matters.
  • Quality Assurance
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and integrity of the job evaluation and compensation systems, including auditing policies and programs.
    • In collaboration with the HR Business Analyst, develop and execute on processes to evaluate and analyze job evaluation and compensation metrics, trends and quality.
  • Collective Bargaining
    • Support collective bargaining by providing research, data analysis, recommendations and advise on classification and compensation matters.

 

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Management, Business, Commerce or related field.

    • Equivalencies will be considered.

  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation is strongly desired. 

  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CHRP) designation considered an asset.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in job evaluation/ classification and  compensation required.
  • An understanding of relevant legislative frameworks associated with public sector compensation strongly desired. 
  • Strong technical knowledge of compensation and job evaluation principles, best practices, as well as statistical analysts and data interpretation.
  • Knowledge of research and survey methods.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and able to convey complex and broad concepts to a non technical audience.
  • Unionized experience and understanding of collective agreements is required.
  • Strong analytical and evaluation skills to address complex and contentious classification and compensations issues and to make consistent and defensible decisions.

  • Consulting with leadership on more complex issues which require intervention or approval.
  • A comprehensive level of understanding of classification and compensation principles.
  • Leading specific projects and contributing to the development and maintenance of the college’s compensation and job evaluation systems.

 

SALARY: $89,708 - $112,166 reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience. This is a full-time permanent position with immediate access to our great pension and benefit programs.
