NorQuesters are difference makers, and we are searching for energetic and experienced substitute instructors who are dedicated to making a difference in the ESL Intensive program. Your expertise teaching general Reading/Writing and Listening/Speaking classes (CLB 7-8) as well as English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses is essential. Your teaching philosophy aligns with helping English language learners meet occupational and/or academic language proficiency requirements. We are looking for casual instructors, on an on-going basis. A complete list of courses included within the ESL Intensive program is available on the NorQuest website: ESL Intensive at NorQuest College     

 

 

How you’ll make a difference: 

 

  • Deliver high-quality instruction with blended delivery: 80% face-to-face and 20% online
  • Prepare learning materials according to college and program guidelines suitable for adult students, ensure that plans and developed materials adhere to basic standards, and prepare supplemental materials as needed.
  • Deliver some course curriculum content using Blackboard Ultra and Moodle for synchronous and asynchronous instruction.
  • Upload content to the course Moodle site.
  • Use a variety of instructional approaches including task-based language teaching and group work.
  • Communicate with learners in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assess students by administering formative and summative assessments.
  • Maintain accurate student records and assign final grades.
  • Work as a member of a team, including liaising with program instructors and program leadership.

 

What you bring:

  

  • Master’s degree in TESL/TEAL/TESOL, English, English Literature, Linguistics, or related field is required.
  • TESL Canada certification Standard 1, 2 or 3, preferred.
  • Experience using and assessing language skills using the Canadian Language Benchmarks.
  • Previous instructional experience in a post-secondary environment with evidence of student-centered teaching excellence is preferred.
  • Experience with online course delivery and learner management systems (e.g., Moodle, Kultura, PeopleSoft) and computer programs (i.e., Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

Successful candidates for the ESL Intensive program instructor position are required to provide the following:

SALARY: Reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience. This is a Faculty role therefore the pay range is quite large, the Faculty Association Agreement outlines how pay is determined.

 

Casual teaching opportunities are available on an ad hoc basis, and hours are not guaranteed. 

 

The ESL Intensive program is offered online on Monday and in-person at the downtown campus Tuesday through Friday.
