NorQuesters are difference makers and we’re searching for someone dedicated to making a difference to join our Financial Aid and Awards team as a Financial Aid Advisor. The successful candidate will find ways forward and be boldly curious and intentionally courageous in helping make a difference in the lives of our learners.
Reporting to the Team Lead, Student Financial Aid, the Financial Aid Advisor plays a pivotal role connecting with prospective and current domestic students with available funding sources to facilitate their ability to apply to and successfully graduate from NorQuest College. The Financial Aid Advisor provides guidance, options, and financial advise to assist students in making informed decisions and finding ways forward in funding their education by focusing on access and persistence.
Responsibilities include liaising with government and college stakeholders to resolve escalated student issues, advise on the funding implications related to course enrolment changes such as adds/drops, withdrawals, etc., providing relevant funding options, providing financial counseling to students, through one-on-one interactions and group workshops, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders in support of student success.
HOW YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE:
- Provide advice, information, and assistance through various mediums to prospective and current students.
- Create tools and resources to support students in identifying, understanding and navigating relevant funding options.
- Liaise with government and College stakeholders to resolve escalated student issues.
- Discuss financial implications of lack of academic progress or withdrawals.
- Interpret and explain student funding, college and program policies and procedures as it relates to funding.
- Advise students of loan payment options and planning for loan repayment.
- Provide financial counselling to students, through one-on-one and group interactions.
- Connect and collaborate with other areas of the college where needed for student support.
- Support the funding life cycle by completing required government funding forms and assisting with the confirmation of enrolment process, as required.
WHAT YOU BRING:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred. Equivalencies may be considered.
- 3+ years of experience in student advising/student centered role or a related career in post-secondary education.
- Previous experience working with student funding programs, policies and regulation and frameworks would be an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and able to convey complex and broad concepts to a student audience.
- Ability to exercise considerable judgement in the course of your work and excellent problem solving.
- Excellent ability to navigate conflicting policy environments and manage ambiguity.
- Proven ability to work individually and as part of a team, receiving broad instruction and direction.
- Knowledge of PeopleSoft would be an asset.

SALARY: $61,635 - $80,033 reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience. This is a full-time position with the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE). For more information regarding the AUPE Collective Agreement, please check out this link.
