The Graphic Designer reports to the Manager, Visual Communications, Strategic Communications. This role provides graphic design expertise that supports NorQuest College's brand, marketing, and institutional communications. The position is responsible for creating visually engaging, inclusive, and accessible designs across a wide range of digital and print assets while ensuring brand consistency through the application of NorQuest's visual identity standards. Working collaboratively with internal clients and colleagues across the college, this role translates messages into clear, effective visual communication that supports marketing, recruitment, engagement, and brand goals.

 

HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

    • Interpret and develop creative concepts and produce digital and print designs aligned with NorQuest's strategic priorities.
    • Translate complex information and messaging into clear, engaging visual formats for diverse audiences.
    • Ensure all design outputs meet accessibility standards and reflect inclusive design practices.
    • Apply and uphold NorQuest's brand guidelines consistently across all materials to maintain a cohesive institutional identity.
    • Review, update, and refine existing assets to ensure accuracy, compliance, and brand alignment.
    • Produce a wide range of marketing and communication assets, including social graphics, print collateral, digital ads, presentations, signage, and templates.
    • Prepare production-ready files for print and digital distribution while maintaining version control, file organization, and asset libraries.
    • Work closely with internal clients, project managers, and marketing partners to understand project objectives and deliver design solutions that meet strategic needs.
    • Provide design recommendations, creative guidance, and technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Stay current with design trends, accessibility guidelines, technology trends, and industry best practices while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

 

WHAT YOU BRING

    • Diploma in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or an equivalent post-secondary program, with 2-4 years of professional graphic design experience.
    • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
    • Strong understanding of typography, layout, colour theory, hierarchy, and visual communication principles.
    • Experience creating accessible and inclusive design solutions and applying accessibility standards to visual communications.
    • Experience working within established brand standards and producing high-quality digital and print assets.
    • Strong conceptual thinking, creative problem-solving, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
    • Experience collaborating with internal clients and stakeholders to provide design recommendations and deliver solutions that support strategic goals. Familiarity with HTML, CSS, motion graphics, and Adobe After Effects is considered an asset.

  • Acting as a subject-matter resource on layout, typography, hierarchy, inclusive design, visual storytelling, and file preparation.
  • Building strong relationships with internal clients, leadership, project teams, vendors, and creative partners to achieve project goals and maintain brand consistency.
  • Managing multiple concurrent projects, prioritizing workload, and delivering high-quality design solutions within established timelines.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes, templates, workflows, accessibility, and user experience while supporting effective and consistent visual communication across the college.

SALARY: AUPE Band Level 8 | Analyst III | $67,351 - $87,454 annually reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience. This is a full-time, permanent position with the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE).
