NorQuesters are difference makers and we’re searching for someone dedicated to making a difference to us as an Indigenous Education Developer - Sustainability to advance decolonization and indigenization within the Sustainability Coordinator Diploma.
This position will primarily support highlighting and embedding Indigenous perspectives and knowledge into academic programming within the Faculty of Business, Environment and Technology (FBET). The position will support the curriculum development of the Sustainability Coordinator Diploma (launching in Fall 2025) to ensure Indigenous perspectives and representation occurs throughout the diploma alongside western perspectives. The position will require curriculum development (curriculum map and assessments) and content development (instructor & student facing deliverables).
Reporting to the Academic Program Manager of STEM, the Indigenous Educational Developer - Sustainability actively cultivates an inclusive, decolonized and scholarly approach to advancing teaching practices; Student success, curriculum development, and achieving desired states in Re-Imagine Higher Education 2030 through an Indigenous lens.
An Indigenous Educational Developer - Sustainability actively contributes to curriculum development, creation of teaching and learning materials, and educational technologies to impart meaningful learning experiences for students (and indirectly, instructors). An Indigenous Educational Developer - Sustainability demonstrates the NorQuest Qs throughout their work, and is committed to intentional practices of Decolonial Indigenization, Anti-Racism, and EDI.
How you’ll make a difference:
This is a 6-month position, we anticipate this position will become a faculty instructing role upon program launch in Fall 2025.
40% Indigenous Representation within the Sustainability Coordinator Diploma
- Ensure Indigenous representation through curriculum development; review and edit curriculum maps, assessments, and content.
- Support the development of WILCEC and COOP, or other sector facing elements of curriculum to include Indigenous representation and perspectives.
- Support Subject Matter Experts, curriculum developers, instructors, faculty and academic team in embedding Indigenous, EDI, decolonization and anti-racism content and curriculum.
- Provide subject matter expertise of Sustainability within the context of Indigenous communities, organizations, and ways of thinking.
25% Curriculum Development
- Over a 6-month period develop 3 (three) Sustainability focused courses within the program architecture.
- Deliver curriculum maps in-line with the program architecture and PAPRs proposal.
- Suggest learning activities for students to complete.
- Collaborate with the Teaching & Learning Department to complete curriculum maps within time and budget.
- Contribute to WILCEC and COOP program development to ensure Indigenous representation with sector partners.
25% Content Development
- Over a 6-month period develop 3 (three) Sustainability focused courses within the program architecture.
- Create student and instructor facing content for successful program launch.
- Deliver a documentation to pull together content while also allowing for agile course development to reflect changes within the sector.
- Ensure Indigenous, Anti-Racism and EDI perspectives are integrated into content (e.g. specifically identity links to ensure classroom implementation).
10% Community
- Attending team meetings on a regular basis with the Teaching & Learning Department and within the FBET faculty.
- Support and attend Indigenous community events on campus and with the Indigenous House of Learning.
What you bring:
- Non-degree measured education will be taken into consideration such as: traditional teachings rooted in Treaty 6 or other treaties from Indigenous nations of Canada; land-based learning knowledge; experience working with Indigenous communities and other relevant experiences.
- Three (3) or more years’ experience in a Sustainability-focused role in support of Indigenous communities.
- Proven technical knowledge in a Sustainability focused role (e.g. social impact, community investment, energy & environment, sustainable business, sustainable finance etc.).
- Experience advancing anti-racism, decolonization, equity, and inclusion.
- Strong knowledge and experience with anti-oppressive theory and practice considered and asset.

- Highly developed abilities in the areas of interpersonal communication, reflective practice, small group facilitation and effective teamwork.
- Proven project management experience and exceptional time management skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex sustainability issues to a variety of audiences (for example, utilizing storytelling in verbal and written mediums)
- Experience teaching adults either within a formal learning environment or through facilitation of workshops.
- A passion for supporting faculty, instructional staff and instructional assistants of diverse backgrounds and experiences, with sensitivity to the professional development challenges and support needs of educators at all career stages, as well as instructors with little or no cultural background.
- Proven experience with practices that increase learner engagement, develop sound assessments, promote learner-centric instructional design and quality curriculum development.
- Ability to navigate educational technology and high willingness to learn and adopt new tools and technology, while also ensuring that Indigenous perspectives brought into curriculum are not lost through the use of educational technology.
- Hold some knowledge of Alberta Treaty nations, Metis districts and Indigenous nations of the northern territories. As well as experience working with Indigenous communities and stakeholders.
- Ability to review curriculum and educational content and implement changes to improve Indigenous perspectives within curricula in the Sustainability Coordinator Diploma.
- Decide based on experience and information of the typical learners in our classrooms what content is suitable and appropriate.
- Decide on the best methods for teaching content and to engage students in the curricula.
- Collaborate with project teams and provide subject matter expertise to inform decision making.
SALARY: Reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience. This is a full-time term position with immediate access to our great pension and benefit programs.
This is a Faculty role, and the pay range is quite large, check out the Faculty Collective Agreement Appendix A to better understand how pay is determined.
