NorQuesters are difference makers and we’re looking for someone dedicated to finding ways forward to join our Faculty of Health Studies team at our Edmonton and Wetaskiwin campuses as Instructional Assistants in our Practical Nurse program.

 

Graduates of NorQuest College’s Practical Nurse program are also Difference Makers in terms of the health care that Albertans receive. Our students prepare for their clinical experiences with theory and hands-on learning in multiple modes of delivery, and we are proud of the varied and robust learning experiences in our programs. We utilize low and high-fidelity simulation to augment the learner experience, providing students with a safe learning environment to practice and reflect.

HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

 

  • Our Instructional Assistants take pride in making a positive impact on the lives of the students they teach.
  • As a NorQuest Instructional Assistant, you will facilitate learning in the lab setting in Edmonton and/or Wetaskiwin, so the ability to travel to these locations is a requirement.
  • Instructional Assistants help our learners acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitude to be successful and safe practitioners within their scope of practice.
  • This role works with students on campus in the lab setting.
  • The hours of work can vary.
  • Lab courses are offered weekdays and weekends, during days and evenings.
  • Lab components are mandatory and facilitated in-person for every delivery (online anytime, blended, face to face, evening/weekends).
  • On-campus attendance is required and subject to change as per operational needs.
  • Demonstrate required knowledge for all lab courses (NFDN 1001, HEAS 1000, NFDN 1002, NFDN 2003). 
  • Prepare lab for facilitation including the setting up and taking down of equipment as per lab requirements.
  • Monitoring and organizing of lab supplies, lab equipment, and lab materials.
  • Ensure lab materials are prepared prior to lab course.
  • Collaborate with lab team to ensure effective facilitation of lab courses.
  • Plan and provide demonstrations of skills.
  • Facilitate remediation for students.
  • Assess students in lab to ensure they are meeting learning outcomes.
  • Provide constructive verbal and written feedback to students as required for lab assessments.
  • Provide lab coverage as required to meet operational needs.
  • Prepare all required equipment and supplies for the clinical scaffolding shift.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress.
  • Maintain documentation of student progress and grades as per program requirements.
  • Attend all team meetings.
  • Refer students to college services as needed.
  • Notify appropriate individual of any requirements for lab maintenance to ensure safety of staff and students.
  • Notify Appropriate individual of requirements to order supplies.
  • Maintain lab standardization to ensure cleanliness and organization in labs and supply rooms.
  • Participate in lab resource development.
  • Has knowledge of equipment use.
  • Assist Course Organizer as required.
  • Provide feedback on program materials related to lab.

 

WHAT YOU BRING:

 

  • Practical Nursing Diploma or certificate. Has all required updates to work to full scope as per CLPNA requirements.
  • Active registration with CLPNA. No restrictions on license.
  • At least 3 years of nursing or nursing education experience (or the equivalent in part-time experience).
  • Previous formal or informal teaching experience is an asset.

SALARY: $2,078 to $2,700 bi-weekly, reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience. This is a 6 months term position with immediate access to our great benefit programs.
