Reporting to the Program Chair, the Therapeutic Recreation Instructor will work alongside like-minded individuals dedicated to helping our learners acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies required for future practice in Therapeutic Recreation. This position requires someone who is dependable, possesses excellent communication skills, likes to work with people, and has a desire to play at work & work at play.

This is permanent full-time position that involves daytime, evening, and weekend teaching assignments. The successful candidate must be able to teach in-person at the downtown Edmonton campus.

 

HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Deliver high-quality instruction for theory and lab courses in both in-person and online formats.

  • Prepare, maintain, and contribute to the development and ongoing improvement of curriculum and instructional materials.

  • Supervise, assess, and evaluate student performance in classroom, lab, and practicum settings, providing timely feedback and learning supports.

  • Model professional, ethical, and respectful behaviour while fostering effective human relations with students and colleagues.

  • Maintain accurate student records and reports in accordance with program, college, and regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate with instructional team members and contribute to divisional and program goals.

  • Adhere to college policies and procedures and participate in ongoing professional development.


WHAT YOU BRING

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation (Masters’ degree an asset).
  • Current professional member of ATRA (CTRS certification is an asset)
  • Minimum of five years clinical experience in recreation therapy.
  • Minimum two years of experience in a post–secondary environment (or coursework in adult education).
  • Demonstrated ability to create inclusive, engaging learning environments using adult education principles, adaptable teaching strategies, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven capacity to assess and evaluate student performance using a variety of academic methods, while effectively supporting learners at different skill levels.
  • Strong conflict-resolution and problem-solving abilities, combined with cultural sensitivity and a genuine passion for Therapeutic Recreation.

  • Working both independently and collaboratively, taking initiative within the scope of college policies and procedures to support instructional excellence and student success.

 

SALARY: Reflective upon what you bring. AKA your education and experience. Plus, immediate access to our great pension and benefits program. This is a Faculty role therefore the pay range is quite large, the Faculty Association agreement outlines how pay is determined.
