Licensed Practical Nurse

Reporting to the Manager of Wellness, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a key role in supporting student health, wellbeing, and success by providing medical assessment, health education, emergency response, and community referrals. This position serves as a primary point of contact for students with health concerns and provides both preventative and responsive health services in a post-secondary environment.

In addition to providing emergency and routine medical care, the LPN supports health promotion initiatives, student immunization review processes, and readiness for clinical placements within NorQuest's health programs. Working collaboratively with students, faculty, Wellness team members, and community partners, the Licensed Practical Nurse contributes to a safe, healthy, and supportive learning environment while delivering services in accordance with professional, legislative, and organizational standards.

 

HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver student health education initiatives that provide health information, support, and resources on a variety of health-related topics.
  • Provide nursing assessments of injuries and illnesses on campus and recommend appropriate care, treatment, referrals, or emergency response.
  • Review student immunization records to determine readiness for clinical placements and provide guidance regarding immunization requirements.
  • Educate students regarding immunizations, practice-prone procedures, and other health-related requirements associated with clinical placements.
  • Support the College's Communicable Disease Procedure and help promote a safe and healthy campus environment.
  • Collaborate with psychologists, social workers, wellness professionals, faculty, and other healthcare providers to support student wellbeing.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with community organizations and healthcare providers to support appropriate referrals and student access to services.
  • Provide emergency care, first aid, health information, and community referrals for students, staff, and faculty as required.
  • Liaise with regional NorQuest campuses and internal stakeholders to support consistent health service delivery.
  • Contribute to departmental projects, health initiatives, and organizational priorities that support learner success and wellbeing.

 

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Diploma in Practical Nursing.
  • Current registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Three to five years of experience in a community healthcare setting, preferably including health education and health promotion.
  • Experience developing and delivering health education programs and working within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience reviewing immunization records and supporting clinical placement requirements is considered an asset.
  • Strong critical thinking, assessment, communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Identify opportunities to improve health services, processes, and student health education initiatives.
  • Lead student health education programming and support health promotion activities across the College.
  • Provide guidance and expertise to students, faculty, and staff regarding medical assessments, health concerns, and immunization requirements.
  • Build collaborative relationships with public health agencies, healthcare providers, faculty, Wellness team members, and community organizations.
  • Exercise professional judgment while working independently and in accordance with privacy legislation, professional standards, and College policies.

 

SALARY: AUPE Band Level 9 | Advisor III | $74,085 - $96,200 annually reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience. This is a full-time, permanent position with the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE).
