Reporting to the Readiness Team Lead, the Readiness Advisor plays a pivotal role in helping learners achieve their education and career goals by providing personalized support and guidance, answering questions, and providing information and options to help them make informed decisions about their academic future and career aspirations. The Readiness advising team supports the student lifecycle through a centralized academic advisory group.

 

Our Readiness Advisors are committed to maintaining a thorough understanding of both internal and external programming, processes, and policies. By staying informed of the latest developments, they ensure the delivery of consistent, accurate information to students, thereby fostering enduring relationships with the college community that transcend specific programs.

 

HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

 

  • Provide advice, information and assistance (in person, over the phone and electronically) to applicants and current students.
  • Assist applicants and students with understanding and completion of forms related to admissions, transfer credits and PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment Recognition).
  • Possess basic knowledge related to funding options (loans, grants, scholarships, awards, bursaries, third party, etc.) to relay to students. Understanding of funding eligibility requirements for prospects, applicants and current students.
  • Provide general information on tuition and fee deadlines, payment options, college services (bookstore, computer commons, etc.)
  • Advise and guide applicants and current preparatory students through the admission process.
  • Advise applicants and current preparatory students on both the academic and non-academic program requirements, including language proficiency.
  • Advise ongoing preparatory students on bridging and laddering into post-secondary programs within NQ.
  • Advise applicants and current preparatory students on alternate program options and pathways.
  • Intricate knowledge of how course enrolment, course sequencening can impact admissions, graduation, and funding eligibility.

 

Create initial Learner’s Plan for ESL students based on CLB scores:

  • Connect applicants with assessments when needed and determine if testing is required, providing for certain preparatory programs. 
  • Review and evaluate assessment placement test results used for admission to post-secondary program admission.  
  • Notify applicants of testing results for program entry and information on retest if needed. Advise on options – move application to alternative program such as ESL or AU, or retest.
  • Connect students with Retention Advisors for course planning and refer to accessibility services for exam accommodations.
  • Connect students with external resources as needed.
  • Provide admissions advising at College events (Open House, Info Night, New Student Orientation etc.)

 

WHAT YOU BRING:

 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in student advising/ student-centered or related careers in a post-secondary setting is required.
  • Equivalencies will be considered.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft would be an asset.

SALARY:  $61,635 - $80,033 annually reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience. We are looking for one full-time AUPE permanent position that provide immediate access to our great pension and benefits programs.
