The Colbourne Institute for Inclusive Leadership (CIIL) empowers Western Canadian organizations to develop and maintain equitable and inclusive environments. Driven by research and data, our focus is on providing support and training to organizations as well as conducting innovative research in the areas of inclusion.
Reporting to the Director of the Colbourne Institute, the research coordinator will be tasked with supporting a new research project funded by the Tri-agency council. From the Ground Up is a project that will measure the impact of the City of Edmonton’s revised Migrant Inclusion Policy.
In partnership with the City of Edmonton and local settlement and cultural agencies, this project will seek to measure the impact (or lack thereof) of such policies on newcomer inclusion, especially in the context of employment and business outcomes. The purpose of the Migrant Inclusion Policy is to advance the social inclusion and belonging of all migrants regardless of status in Edmonton, enabling them to thrive and flourish and ensure their full, equitable participation in the social, political and economic activities of the community. Migrants are city builders and contributors of value to Edmonton's economy, enriching the city’s social and cultural fabric.
The Research Coordinator will provide a full range of research support for this project. This individual is a professional, well-organized, and dynamic individual who is a current M.A or PhD student in a related field. With a mix of initiative, analytical skills, and attention to detail, this position supports the Principal Investigator in the development, research design, execution and analysis of a grant funded research project that evaluates the impact of municipal immigration policies.
HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
In partnership with the Institute Director and the rest of the research team, this individual will:
- Implement a research workplan
- Coordinate meetings with partners, including the City of Edmonton and the Edmonton Regional Immigrant Employment Council.
- Support with the design and development of data collection tools (surveys, focus group questions, info letters).
- With support from the PI, develop a Research ethics application
- Create and maintain project tracking tools (e.g. budget spreadsheet, tracking spreadsheet, and project management software)
- Coordinates and organizes project meetings, workshops, events, and produces minutes and reports for effective communication
- Conduct literature reviews.
- Support with qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
- Vet potential research participants using guidelines established by research teams
- Code data within a preset framework established the project lead or research team
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelors Degree in a related field (Social Sciences)
- Current MA or PhD student in a related field (Social Sciences)
- 3-5 years research experience.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- Be able to pay attention to detail and have strong writing and editing skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Critical thinking & interpersonal skills
- Be self-motivated and able to exercise a high level of sound and independent judgment, reasoning and discretion
- Base knowledge of municipal and immigration policies.
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with other team members from other areas of expertise within the organizations
- Ability to multi-task at a high level of performance
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, research and relationship building skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Salary: AUPE Band Level 8 | Specialist III | $32.70 - $42.46 per hour reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience.
